Intimacy

Intimacy is a simple gesture; a hand cupping a receiving face, an arm draped over a welcoming back. These are the moments that Thion's new work explores; the points at which two entities are brought together as one form. There is a compelling sense of bravery in Thion's work. First, in the sense of a bold simplicity. By placing these vibrant forms in a void we are immediately interpolated by them, but suddenly our focus is narrowed further still to the very loci of these gestures of intimacy. There is no where else to look. Secondly, the sexuality present in these works (as hard as it is to admit in modern society) runs contrary to current hegemonic values. The bravery here is derived from making the source of potential outrage the singular focus common to these pieces. While society at large may try to censor these tender, human moments that unite us, Thion is unflinching in bring them to the forefront of his work.
