Human connection

Thion’s new work delves into identity and human connection at a time when these themes have never felt more urgent. The semi-abstract works depict a variety of relationships—some erotic, some consoling—but in all cases two figures yearn to become whole through physical connection. A multitude of fragments and shapes blur the boundaries between the bodies in each piece. Still, each individual figure is a colourful, complex being, caught in a moment where they bare their truest selves. While one can see the continuity of techniques used in Thion’s previous works like Intimacy and Formless, these pieces are imbued with a new contagious energy and multiplicity. Perhaps most importantly, they show us that we should never hold back on loving whomever we want to love. The result is a beautiful, cathartic collection of work that points to an artist coming into his own. To witness this realization of self-expression leaves the audience empowered to do the same.
